Why We Recommend It
The Best Siding for
Oregon's Climate
James Hardie is the #1 brand of fiber cement siding in North America — and our most recommended product for Oregon homeowners. Their products are Engineered for Climate®, meaning they're specifically formulated for the Pacific Northwest's wet, moss-prone environment.
Unlike wood siding, Hardie® fiber cement is noncombustible, resists moisture and rot, and holds no appeal for woodpeckers or termites. Backed by a 30-year non-prorated, transferable substrate warranty — it's the last siding you'll ever need to install.

Factory-Applied Color
ColorPlus® Technology:
Never Paint Your Siding Again
ColorPlus® Technology is James Hardie's factory-applied, baked-on color system. Instead of painting siding on the job site (which begins failing within 5–7 years), ColorPlus® finishes are applied in a controlled factory environment and cured between coats for a finish that lasts dramatically longer.
15-Year Finish Warranty
James Hardie's ColorPlus® Technology comes with a 15-year limited warranty covering paint and labor against peeling, cracking, and chipping. That's real protection, not just a marketing claim.
Factory-Applied & Baked On
ColorPlus® finishes are applied in a controlled factory environment and cured between coats — delivering superior color consistency, adhesion, and durability that field-applied paint simply cannot match.
Resists Fading & Chipping
The multi-coat, baked-on finish is engineered to resist UV fading, moisture-related chipping, and the daily wear that causes field-painted siding to fail within 5–7 years.
Moisture-Resistant Color
Oregon's rainfall is no match for ColorPlus® Technology. The factory finish seals the fiber cement substrate against moisture intrusion at the surface level, adding an extra layer of protection.
Touch-Up Kits Available
Minor scratches or cuts during installation? James Hardie's ColorPlus® Touch-Up Kits let you address small areas without repainting entire sections — maintaining a flawless finish.
Saves Money Long-Term
No repainting every 5–7 years. ColorPlus® Technology dramatically reduces the lifetime maintenance cost of your siding — a major advantage over primed-for-paint fiber cement or wood.

James Hardie FAQ
Is James Hardie siding worth the cost?
Yes — for Oregon homeowners especially. The 30-year non-prorated warranty, ColorPlus® 15-year finish warranty, and the elimination of repainting costs every 5–7 years make Hardie® siding a strong long-term investment. It also adds resale value and the warranty is transferable to new owners.
What is "Engineered for Climate®" and why does it matter in Oregon?
James Hardie manufactures different formulations of their fiber cement products for different climate zones. The Pacific Northwest formulation is specifically designed for high moisture, freeze-thaw cycles, and the moss-prone conditions common in Oregon. Using the wrong formulation can void the warranty.
How long does James Hardie siding installation take?
A typical single-family home takes 3–7 days depending on size, complexity, and whether we're doing a full tear-off or installing over existing sheathing. We'll give you a specific timeline during your free estimate.
Can I see James Hardie color samples before deciding?
Absolutely. We can bring physical ColorPlus® color samples to your home so you can see how they look in your actual lighting conditions. You can also use the James Hardie Color Visualizer tool on their website to preview colors on a home similar to yours.
Does Firu Construction offer a warranty on the installation?
Yes. In addition to the James Hardie manufacturer warranties (30-year substrate, 15-year ColorPlus® finish), we stand behind our installation workmanship. Ask us about our installation warranty during your free estimate.
Can James Hardie siding be installed over existing siding?
In some cases, yes — but we typically recommend a full tear-off so we can inspect the sheathing and framing for moisture damage, ensure proper house wrap installation, and achieve the best final appearance. We'll assess your specific situation during the estimate.
